Aquarium decoration:
A mixture of black sand, sand beige and dark brown sand, gravel between them in different colors and different grain size, starts with 0.8 mm and comes with larger pebbles to about 16 mm.

With mini and mini shells snail shells about 1kg, the ground was also mixed, showing a very natural design.

More here at Link: Mini shells and snail shells for Malawi basin.

The modules of Rockzolid and river pebbles in different sizes and color, over time, the modules extreme at different locations with layers overgrown the whole thing is still a more natural touch, the river pebbles are veralgt.

The mixture is again but soon matched with dark brown sand of Green Leaf on.
Tiny mussel and snail shells are still being mixed with 3 kg of.

All modules can be used as a hiding place, this came also has 2 kg (Original Malawi ground, gave me an acquaintance brought from Malawi, this I simply poured into the pool.
PLANTING basin without

Since the direct habitat of my stocking, actually no plants are present, were also put into the basin no.

Lake Malawi is partly covered by large Vallisnerienbänke by.

Certainly there is the possibility a Malawi Aquarium occupying with plants, but I feel this is absolutely unimportant in most regions of Malawi's and especially since where many live on the cichlids, such as in the rock zone or in the transition zones are as good as no plants exist.

Malawi aquariums are distinguished mainly by decorating the stone landscape, and also I have stated here my attention in the design.

If desired-topic plants there on Malawi-Guru.de, the plant database on the subject.

Special features of the facility:
The decoration of the aquarium consists of 4 - H modules of Rockzolid In this 2 glued these on a respective individual Plexiglas with Orca and once glued at the top left and one at the bottom right to the top at an angle to the rear wheel.

Also, a G-module is under the left H-module glued diagonally by Rockzolid also on the rear disc.

Blackboard foil is glued from the outside over the entire 220 cm width of the aquarium which suggests an enormous depth and draws attention completely on the modules.

A total of 10 caves (hiding places) are now available and from large to quite small pools.

A contribution on the subject of illumination there on Malawi-Guru.de see lights !

1x JMB AquaLight (90 cm long) blue and cool white LEDs provide the light for now the basin.

Why is water blue and why I try to mimic this by?

When sunlight shines on the water surface and it penetrates, absorbing the back and forth oscillating water molecules, which are linked by hydrogen bonds with their neighbors, a little red light, so that a bluish color is produced.
Important Note:

Cichlids from Lake Malawi need very clean and clear water, this powerful filter are important, which filter the pool accordingly.

Important Note:

Malawi cichlids like to suggest a strong enough flow, which I have tried here also.

Here are 2 powerheads in operation, the one left on the disc and the other right on the disk and are run in random mode.

2x XS stream wave pump Sicce 8000 liters

Equally effective and strong powerheads are absolutely of paramount importance, I personally have already tried some brands.

Why flow pumps?

These serve several purposes, one in Malawi itself, strong currents, which should also be inspired by the fish in the aquarium.

The 2nd point, it swirls beautifully deposits on and promoting this to the end of the filter and thereby also oxygen is introduced into the pool and at the same time driven by the surface movement of the pH value upwards.

But found the best here on the quality and longevity are after the current pumps of "Tunze & Sicce" by far.

Aulonocara stuartgranti maleri

1/1 (F1)

For the attitude in the aquarium to replicate a rock-sand transition zone with lots of sand is recommended that in accordance with the natural conditions, crisscrossed by many rocks and stones wird.Bei the arrangement of stone slabs should be taken that many crevices and caves upfront and that the basin is divided into several "not mutually observable" zones.

The species can be kept in tanks from at least 400 liters, provided that a minimum edge length is assured of 140 centimeters, the more the besser.Sie considered as peaceful and also shows intraspecific few aggressions.

Otopharynx tetraspilus

1/2 (F1)

Otopharynx tetraspilus males are 15cm and 12cm tall females.

Astatotilapia calliptera

1/4 (F1)

One of the major exceptions which neither the Mbunas yet to be counted Nonmbunas in Lake Malawi, in nature and in the aquarium refer the males a cave and attract their females in there.

Are assertive cichlids that come into consideration from a tank size of 500 liters.

Are ommnivore cichlids.

Stigmatochromis melanchros "previously. Sp Tolae"

1/1 (F1)

Stigmatochromis melanchros - (. Sp "tolae") is repeatedly confused with woodi Stigmatochromis in aquatics well known, with which he lives sympatric.

Morphologically, the melanchros, mainly distinguished by its smaller mouth and through the less the abdominal line toward pointed head shape, which makes him seem a little higher-backed.
Also carries the Tolae a generally very dark color, while this darkens according to the Woodi only during the breeding season.

The less tapered head shape and the more horizontally positioned mouth are a further indication that Stigmatochromis melanchros not eat directly from the sandy soil and this therefore not quite as independent as its close relative.

S. melanchros is in aquatics still largely unknown and is not regularly exported from Lake Malawi still bred.
If anything, such animals are, however, usually under the old name to find "Haplochromis tolae" ..

Rarely in Malawi aquariums

Labidochromis caeruelus "kakusa"

1/3 (F1)

The genus Labidochromis among the insectivores and thus the carnivorous cichlids of Lake Malawi, with which they constitute an exception in the large group of mbuna.

Labidochromis caeruleus "kakusa" seeks its prey in the sediment of its biotope, in the nursery on the rocks and with fondness on the ceilings of large caves.
A single population of this species appears to have nutritionally differently.

She lives mainly in shallow water in Vallisnerien fields and eats snails, which live in these beds.
Nevertheless, this Mbuna needs some high-fiber and carotene-containing food (fe. Spirulina), which is why this type also like to hermacht times over the nursery.

Like most species of the genus Labidochromis lives L. caeruleus rather solitary and is completely non-territorial.

They are constantly moving through their habitat and never stay long in one place. Interestingly, they are tolerated by most other species in their districts.

There is a great fondness for large dark caves whose ceilings are searched meticulously for possible prey.

As with all non-territorial species, the females are angebalzt immediately encounter by the males.
The mating ritual takes place in their habitat directly above the sandy-muddy sediment.

Means to me that finding a number of years, the less is more, not only fail the water parameters is far better, but simply put the fish natural lifestyles of the day, as expressed in the great outdoors in this case, the "Malawi "also occurs.

The there must be constantly striving to be feed to search anew every day a fish.

We tend to easily, too often to our fish what good to do, but it is not so .... quite the opposite.

Balanced and varied is my special FX, and works! Absolutely great, the fish are top in color.

I put my frozen food here itself, this gives me the certainty that I know exactly how fresh this really is.

Aquatic Nature "Afri.Chilid S Excel Color"

Live food:

Own offspring, and every 2-3 weeks "Guppy babies"

Labidochromis species belong to tolerate the high-protein diet permanently to the few Mbunas.

In order to ensure that also received the kakusa their share, they also get tablets that I while I feed still give addition to the pool, while the hunters pounce on the granules or frozen food or to the live food drop the tablets on the ground.

Basically Labidochromis species can otherwise also eat the food offered to the other types, so the tablet is only during the growth phase for kakusa & Mbamba Bay and for the mother of pearl.

Here I must say that this excellent work, of course, take this also granulates or frozen food, but because it is more likely to stay in the area of Rock Decoration tablets adding a practical alternative.
