3x Pterophyllum scalare (Angelfish 1x Nature (w), 2x Zebra (m))

Scalar, or Segelflossler originate the rivers of the Amazon region, where they occur in Weißwasser-, black water and clear water rivers and particularly prefer slow moving water bodies areas.

They belong to the family of cichlids, and their entire genus is equal to them as a scalar (Pterophyllum) referred. They are distinguished by their total triangular shape and the fine, sail-like fins. Scalar there are doing in different colors and patterns, from silvery-white "Platinum" on the striped "zebra" to the reddish-black patterned "Red Devil". Variants with veil fins exist. Scalar can be up to 15cm long and as much as 25 cm high. You feel in medium hard water with a pH below 7, at a temperature of 24-30 ° C at ease. Depending on whether you are planning to grow, you can create the temperature in the low or high range of the spectrum.

The natural food of the Scalar is mostly animal nature, but they also eat herbal and normal dry food. In the aquarium, one must note that scalars also eat other, smaller fish and thus, for example, should not be kept together with neons, provided that they have not grown up with this and have learned to perceive them as peers. Barbel are also not a good society, because they like to nibble at the pelvic fins of the angelfish. Basic catfish, however, are neighbors with whom they can get along well.

Synonyms: Platax scalaris, Zeus scalaris, Pterophyllum eimekei

Origin: Ecuador, Peru

Features: Pterophyllum scalare are making ground, just as young fish swim in shoals. Therefore, it is advisable not to fill aquariums too dense with scalars. Has emerged from a swarm Scalar a pair, so this binding usually lasts a lifetime, it will always re-spawned with this partner. If Scalar grow together with Neonfischen, these are not usually eaten later.

Aquarium: Scalar need due to their Beflossung high aquarium with plenty of swimming space, a border planting is quite adequate. Furthermore, by rocks and roots create variety and hiding places. The minimum length Beck for two scalars is 100 cm.

Water quality: should scalare The pH of Pterophyllum are in the range of between 5.5 to 7,2 of hardness range 2 to 15 ° dGH.

Temperature: 24 to 28 ° Celsius

Food: Scalar eat of course very happy to live foods and frozen foods, as well as plant food such as small chunks spinach or lettuce leaves are taken. Likewise, the diet with food flakes and FD-feed can be carried out.

Achievable Size: Up to 15 cm

Breeding: Breeding Pterophyllum scalare in the aquarium is quite possible, but requires often several attempts until the parents have gained sufficient experience. Scalar are open breeders and produce clutches of up to 1000 eggs, usually on plants or stones. Particularly useful are sheets hartblättriger species. For breeding, temperatures are 26-28 ° Celsius. The breed is maintained by both parents and intensive support. The rearing of juveniles is done initially with Artemia nauplii, and later can be used simple flake food. Some breeders recommend also decapsulated Artemia eggs or Cyclop-Eeze.

4x Cleithracara maronii (Maroni cichlid 2m / 2w)

The Maroni cichlid, which is also known under the name Cleithracara maronii, occurs in northern South America

Origin: slow-flowing streams and rivers in the valley of the Orinoco and the three Guianas.

Features: The fish is off-white to light brown and is considered very jumpy. So much so, that changes the color of chestnuts cichlid after a strong concern. An intense dark brown covers the whole body. The males can be seen, among other things, that their fins are slightly larger than the fins of females. Basically, it is recommended that the Maroni cichlid [...]

Abstinence After more than two years, I'm back online and did not want to withhold this pool :)

After I with my old profile was no longer purely (Skalarfreak - scalar vat) I've created a new profile and ask to delete my old.

The basin was now up to the 15/03/2013 without any problems until then the meltdown came and the windshield is cracked.

I have followed many of your advice and as I still hope a lifelike relatively Lifelike South Basin can provide on its feet.

On the subject of overstocking:
After a friendly aquarist had dissolved his pelvis and the fish was about to sink almost in WC I've decided to take over his patch and it set up a second larger aquarium. Since the acquisition, however, lasted almost 2 months the fish were housed in the time with no failures in this basin.

Happy about every comment, criticism and praise for one :)
