2/5 Placidochromis sp. "Phenochilus Tanzania" lupingo
Placidochromis phenochilus lives in sandy habitat on the edge of the transition zone.
The species is not site-faithful and wanders in search of food throughout the habitat.
Types and variants
Until recently, all site variants were associated with both the east (Tanzania) as well as from the western side (Malawi) of the lake the way Placidochromis phenochilus.
But the variant of Tanzania seems to be a separate species, and is currently as Placidochromis sp. "Phenochilus Tanzania" means.
Unlike the continuous blue "Mdoka animals" show adult Tanzania bucks (from 3-4 years) a paillete of light blue and white dots, which makes it very attractive. Both "types" but characterized by the distinctive white lips.
Until the nomenclature clearly defined and complete, I'll P. sp. "Phenochilus Tanzania" regarded as subspecies or location variant of P. phenochilus.
In these types of description are the two "types" therefore presented together.
Placidochromis phenochilus and Placidochromis sp. "Phenochilus Tanzania" are carnivore.Sie are often found in schools of substrate-graves, where they by - are lured whirled sediment - through the constant activity of this Graber.
The species described take on the fluidized material and filter food particles resp. microorganisms contained out through the gills.
The males are only during the spawning season, and even then only a little territorial.
Clean a stone and occupy these only at very short notice. Pairing willing females angebalzt by the goats and led to the mating ritual on the neatly dressed stone. Mouthbrooding females are encountered in most cases accompanied by males in breeding coloration (similar to P. electra), whereas the non-breeding females and juvenile rams form larger groups and follow the substrate grave species by habitat.
The described (n) type (s) are very strongly attracted by whirled sediment.
1/2 Protomelas taeniolatus namalenje
Protomelas taeniolatus is strictly bound to the rocky habitat and preferably there the sediment-free part. The most sought-after areas of the sexually mature males are high on large stones or rock plateaus.
Protomelas teaniolatus has under the rock dwellers found a special niche for itself.
Although they are among the herbivorous cichlids, but this is not entirely accurate.
How Labidochromis and Chilotilapias are first selected promising locations and most exactly checked before the lips are pressed onto the substrate. The oral cavity is then expanded with closed gills.
By thus created vacuum the algae strands are drawn into the fish's mouth and cut with sharp teeth.
Since the intestine of P. teaniolatus only just has double fish length, most algae are excreted undigested.
Only recorded by the algae and diatoms easily digestible (diatoms) and micro-organisms can be effectively digested.
If sufficient plankton (during the plankton bloom) can be P. teaniolatus like tempt excursions to the open water, where greedy plankton is eaten.
The males defend their territories (large stones / rock plateaus) quite aggressive against all invading Arten.Paarungswillige females approaching specifically the districts of males and only a very short courtship comes down to the rock immediately to spawn.
Since such exposed areas is hardly protected against spawning robbers who bucks defend relatively large Reviere.Die brooding females retire between the rock and hide. Compared to other species P. teaniolatus is disposed generally peaceful.
1/4 Labidochromis caeruleus
Labidochromis caeruleus lives in the sediment rich deep rock zone on both sides of the northern half of Malawi. He wanders because the species is not territorial and accordingly no grounds defended constantly searching for food by the biotope. A single [...]
