Description of the aquarium:
South America
Tank size:
160cm x 60cm x 60cm = 576 liters ~ 152 gallons (us)
Specific features:

The pool was ordered from MAT (Meyer Aquarientechnik) from Klein Lafferde on 29/06/2012.
It is stoßverklebt certainly sense seam and 12mm glass. In addition, it has 2 40 holes and a 20x20 cm overflow shaft. For stability, the pool has 2 side struts and a crossbar.

The delivery took place on 21.09.2012. The next day it was then carried to 4 in the first floor. To wear it better, it was worn pointing to the bottom plate to the top. After almost 30 minutes into then aligned on the closet :).

The main part of the base consists of a finished cabinet, which was purchased second-hand. By default, this time was beech and was repainted in white. He adapts to the remaining furnishing. At the cabinet small tweaks have been made to accommodate the filter tank to win. For this, the center bar and a shelf gave way. In order to maintain the stability was used either side of the filter tank 2x54mm square bar.

Under the cabinet is for better weight distribution, a white-lacquered MDF board of 220 * 70cm. Thus we come to a floor load of 500Kg / m2.
Between the cabinet and the MDF is a 5mm Trittschalldämung. The same also between MDF panel and floor.

After setting up the pool was about 4 weeks without the discs in a run-in phase. Since we have decided for complete use new filter material, so the bacteria production should be ensured.
Gradually, in the run-in phase with catfish and small perch thus occupied, the bacteria form.

Aquarium decoration:
65 kg of quartz sand

As substrate we chose about 65kg silica sand. Since the planting will take place mainly in the background, is from front to back, a slight increase.

We find quartz sand suits for the discs and the co-inhabitants. The discs can nicely on the floor "blow" and so are looking for food.
The armored catfish not hurt themselves while foraging your barbels.

By floating plants and the amber-colored water of the silica sand also affects not too bright.
*** All plants were ordered from wasserflora.de on 23/09/2012. Descriptive texts and data were also taken with the written consent from the site. ***

12 x frogbit / Limnobium laevigatum
The frog bite is a decorative floating plant, which particularly suitable for open aquariums but is also suitable for traditional aquariums, because the fine, long and decorative roots provide protection for Gouramis, gouramis and other surface fish that like spending time in the roots of floating plants. If there are sufficient nutrients in the water and the intensity of illumination is good, new leaves grow beyond the water level.

>>> Underwater moss <<<

3 x Cladophora Aegagropila / moss balls - Marimo ball
Cladophora Aegagropila - known in Japan as Marimo ball is not really a water plant, but a ball of algae particular, are a decorative exception. They are normally found in shallow lakes, where the round shape is caused by the wave motions. The moss balls float on the base freely in the water and do not take root. In the aquarium it must be turned regularly so that the beautiful, round shape is retained. The moss ball is also very good for shadier places in the aquarium, as it does not require as much light. The water temperature is of secondary importance. They can also be used in the pond in the hot water, the cold water aquarium. Especially nice as a group they come in different sizes in a nano aquarium with shrimp advantage. For shrimp they are interesting, because in a short time an accumulation of detritus (food particles) and a growth of microorganisms is established which is used together as a dietary supplement for the invertebrates. My shrimp love moss balls, they sit for hours on and feed them from. The balls should be every 14 days expresses caution in lukewarm water to remove the collected inside the ball sludge / dirt. The moss ball can also be separated and fixed by tying on roots or stones (Moos stepping stones). It forms with time, the spherical shape or a flat carpet-like growth. Cladophora aegagrophila stands at various locations in Japan under conservation.

Country of origin: Europe - East Asia, northern hemisphere
Height-width: 1 to 25 cm diameter
Light requirements: low to semi-shade
Temperature 4 - 28 ° C
Water hardness: soft - hard

Growth: slowly, 1cm in
Simplicity: easy

>>> <<< Foreground plants

2 x Samolus sword plant / Echinodorus pariflorus TROPICA
Echinodorus parviflorus 'Tropica' has distinctive hammered leaves and a small peak at the blade tip. The size depends on the illuminance, in low light the plant remains very small. Echinodorus Tropica is only a small group to its best advantage. The diminutive variety is more demanding and light needy than the parent form Echinodorus parviflorus. It needs a bright location in the foreground and a nutritious bottom. It is ideally suited for plants roads as they are often applied in Dutch Aquarium. Echinodorus parviflorus "Tropica" was named in 1985 by botanists Holm-Nielsen & Jacobson after the eponymous Danish nursery Tropica.

Country of origin: South America
Height: 5 - 15 cm
Growth width: 12 - 20 cm
Light requirements: low - very large
Temperature 21 - 28 ° C
Water hardness: soft-hard
PH: 5.5 to 8
Growth: 1 - 2 sheets per month

The pre-filtering takes place in the overflow chute. At the top of the coarsest dirt from a fine filter mat is intercepted. Next, we go with the filtering in the shaft on bio balls. After that you go through the piping into the filter tank.

Main filter

The main filter is a filter tank with 3 chambers in dimensions 80x40x40cm. The filter tank has a non-standard structure. The feed starts in the first chamber. From there it goes down a blade in the second chamber and flows from the bottom upwards Tonrörchen. From there it goes over a slice down through 2 filter mats of 10 cm thickness.

At the bottom of the last chamber, the water is then sucked by the pump through a pipe. The pump sits himself next to the filter tank.

The total filter volume is approximately 72 liters.

Pool and filter tank are connected via a PVC-tubing.
The feed is from a New-Jet 2300 with 2300 l / h. The conveyor height is about 130cm, thereby resulting in a capacity of about 1050 l / h, measured with bucket and stopwatch).

Filter Material

- 20x20x1 filter mat as a prefilter in the overflow chute
- Approximately 16l bioballs in overflow shaft
- Approximately 40l clay pipes
- 2x 40x30x10 filter mats
Other equipment:
CO2 plant

CO2 system from Dennerle with 2 Kg bottle and solenoid valve for the overnight shutdown.
The CO2 is introduced through a JBL Taifun reactor with expansion to 600l. The reactor is located in the 1st chamber of the filter tank.

The comical catfish are about 4cm long, it can be seen externally but no gender differences.
The aquarium should be well structured set with stones, roots and especially plants, so that Otocinclus affinis can hide. The substrate should be slightly darker. The grain size is not important, because the catfish reside primarily on the plants, but no sharp-edged sand should be used.

The L-333 is a classic L-catfish that can socialize with all fish. He is not aggressive. Only he would towards conspecifics defend his hiding place. In my opinion, he is one of the most active L-catfish and is also easily during feeding against armored catfish by.
