Description of the aquarium:
Category:
South America
Tank size:
255 x 250 x 78 (B) x 75 cm (H), L-Form m. Schräge = 2532 liters ~ 668 gallons (us)
Specific features:
We are in 2012, in the midst of the South American blackwater river "Rio Negro" on a fictional riff (of stones) on which it has piled up by the flow over time a large amount of dead wood. In it live the inhabitants of this, my aquarium. So much for the idea behind this device ;-)).

The aim of the redesign was to create an even better structured large cichlids aquarium with many hiding places and districts for the cichlids. In addition, the whole thing should be much closer to the back natuer, in the spirit of a black water tank with a lot of dead wood, etc., as I always say more as a "biotope Style" (close to nature). The "old" impurities were doing completely taken over.

Aquarium decoration:
Gravel:
40 Kg of fine river sand beige, 0.7 - 1.2mm (rounded edges, washed, fire-dried and absolutely free of organic matter, pH-neutral).

60 Kg aquarium gravel Caviar brown, 1 - 2 mm (rounded edges, washed, fire-dried and absolutely free of organic matter, pH-neutral).

30 Kg aquarium gravel black, 1 - 3 mm (rounded edges, washed, fire-dried and absolutely free of organic matter, pH-neutral).

The pebbly comes this time completely of cattle ear - The Pet Shop .

The beige river sand was mixed with the brown Caviar in equal parts to the sand darken, the black gravel was also partially mixed. The Malawi Group here on EB called something like now probably simulate sediment deposits. ;-))

The whole sand / gravel is sufficient for a layer thickness of 1 - 3 cm.

Since this is still dealing with the Bull class of South American cichlids with the fish in this aquarium, thin Styrodur were with transparent aquarium silicone pocketed (Soudal Silirub AQ transparent) and then a thin layer of river sand was sprinkled into the wet silicone, the plates were then appropriately designed on the aquarium floor, so that the large perch and catfish cactus, the bottom plate can not always uncover. In addition, the whole thing is also used as a base for the entire Deko and the protection of the bottom plate.

Furthermore, should there the animals at the relatively thin layer of sand no longer succeed 30cm high sand canyons piling.

All the pools were introduced Filtrerrohre ebendfalls coated with silicone and then with a mixture of brown caviar (1 - 2mm) and some of the black gravel (1-3mm) pasted, so that they no longer looks so directly to the rear wall what I think is very well done.

The same applies to the 2 large caves (150mm PVC pipes, 1x 30cm and 1x 50 cm long), they were stuck with the brown / black gravel mixture in order to recognize them not as strong for installation between the stones.
Plants:
"No plant more" since it not got a "perch safe planting" are for my well-kept species that really get each plant small: -. ((

Worse are only my Scheibensalmler that would eat up everything green in no time and thus destroy. ;-))

Special features of the facility:
150 Kg rainbow sandstone, have passed the Kalktest with acetic acid.

The rainbow sandstone is one of the most beautiful variations of the sandstone. The colors red, beige, white, orange and gray are the colors in which you can see this natural stone (!!!). It is mined in Asiatic Turkey or even in India and is mainly composed of quartz grains that have been pressed by the environmental influences on solid rock. The sandy surface can feel and see.

The Rainbow sandstones already found use in the old "Big Buddies V1.0". They were only cleaned and then fed to a recycling process here.

13 partly Huge roots from Moorkien Wood to clearly separate the areas of perch from each other, the swimming space above is completely free for the Arowana.

Also still to blur many smaller root parts and branches of Moorkien Wood to the big roots in Deadwood Zone transitions, so it looks more natural. ,

5 of these roots have also been used in the old version, and you were completely cleaned.

All stone constructions and roots lie directly on the floor panes which is now protected at the same time by the applied silicone / sand layer.

2 the roots were shot cheap on eBay, the other 11 were either root in a bog in the vicinity even "pulled", or worried about low an acquaintance.

As aquariums come back wall still Fefis skirt modules "Freshwater Cliff Modular Version A & B" is used. These modules are 50 cm wide and 55 cm high, in the width they add. Another 2.5 cm wide overlap. The backplane modules are only about 2-3 cm thick in order to keep more swimming space for the big fish. Appear depending on the angle and light this dark (gray / black), or even a little brighter in red. It consists of 16 modules have been processed. In addition, these modules are al dente against all types of L-catfish. The back walls were glued with aquarium silicone with the two rear glass panes and facing the wall side window, because otherwise they would float.

Other Decoration: ca. 50 Seemandelbaumblätter for nano tanks, 1 sheet at 50l, Height: 10-13cm, as ZUS Laubdeko and again alder cones, good to acidify the aquarium water and to spawn mold..

Seemandelbaumblätter:

Ketapang Leaves / Indian Almond Leaves

Effect:

The compounds of leaves (including tannins) have a mild disinfecting and fungicidal effect. Accordingly, they may be such as preventive use against spawn mold, but also for the treatment and prophylaxis of fin rot and mucous problems.

The pH is only very slightly reduced, the total salt content (conductivity) increased slightly. The water gets after a while a nice amber tone but remains crystal clear.

Alder cones:

2x Dennerle AquaRico Black Cones, alder cones, for 1200 liters

Contents: 40g, about 50 pieces, valuable humic and tannins, ideal for discus, angelfish, neon and all other fish from black water regions.

Dosage: Every 2-3 weeks 4-6 pins to 100 liters, or about 100 alder cones on rough 2500l, every few weeks.

Aquarium equipment:
Lighting:
2x LED Aqua Styl Light RGB, 135 cm (special order)
Consumption: approx 32 W
1x Aqua LED RGB Light Styl, 85cm (standard size)
Consumption: about 20W
1x programmed daylight simulator with 4 programs,
1x Adapter 4P, for up to 4 Aqua Styl Light RGB at a Tageslichsimulator,
1x power supply 12V / 10A (120W)

The lighting comes from the Lum-Light GmbH in Waldbröl. It has now been determined that these LED bars are so bright that you enough for a 80-pelvic width, if not quite as large amounts of light are needed.

These LED lights are available in several versions, each with 2 white LED strips in cool white (5500-6500 K) or warm white (3500 K) or halt mixed both and one row each RGB LEDs. I opted for a cool-white and warm-white LED series. The LED bars are adjustable by 2 pull-out pads around 30cm extendable and thus to the pool width. The 3 light bars are mounted easily using the supplied self-adhesive Velcro strips under the covers of the lamp box with me. Due to the relatively high humidity in the lamp box but they were still add. Secured with stainless steel screws through their sliding pads.

The daylight simulator for LED is available in 2 versions, the first version is equipped with 4 fixed programs. Here, only the primitive times and of course one of the 4 variants are set. This version I am currently using.
During the day, the unit has automatic brightness fluctuations, the lt. Manufacturers are however intentional, as in nature is not a static light also (cloud simulation) occurs.

Program Overview of the preprogrammed variation:

Program 1:
12 hours day with clouds and sunrise, sunshine with clouds and sunset, night darkness.

Program 2:
12 hours day with clouds and sunrise, sunshine with clouds and sunset, noon two hours break, night darkness.

Program 3:
12 hours day with clouds and sunrise, sunshine with clouds and sunset, moonlight night.

Program 4:
Shortened day (10 hours), at night the moonlight.

Of this I am using the first program No. 3, to the times.:

5:00 a.m. to 06:00 light morning light, dawn
6:00 a.m. to 07:00 Sunrise
7:00 to 08:00 Slow transition to daylight
8:00 to 18:30 full daylight, no lunch break
18:30 to 18:40 at dusk
18:40 to 20:00 sunset, sunset
8:00 p.m. to 05:00 at night the moonlight (light illumination)

The times you can move forwards or backwards to set the clock on Tageslichsimulator forward or backward.

There is no summer / winter time changeover.

The 3 light bars need together max. approximately 84W (in daylight), plus a few watts for the daylight simulator and the power supply, at sunrise and sunset, and night of course much less. So I save about 75-80% of the required luminous flux compared to a T5 technology !!!
Filtration:
As do something more "dirt" the fish is a very strong filtering of distress, this unfortunately I had notice in the version V1.0 of this basin:

Filter 1:

1x Velda Clear Control 50, without UV-C (each for ponds up to 20,000 liters)
1x Velda UV-C Unit 9 Watt, for installation in the Clear Control pressure filter
1x Messner eco-Tec2 7500

The Clear Control 50 pressure filter has a net filter volume of 50 l.
The Clear Control pressure filter having a switch for 6 functions, it can be set so that the following options:

Position 1, Filterspülstand: wash away the dirt under the grate
Position 2, Kopfspülstand: wash away the dirt in the head
Position 3, idle state: (the pond) to pump empty to the aquarium
Position 4, filter life: the water runs through the filter material and back into the aquarium (the pond)
5 position, medicine Stand: to filter materials by the water flows back into the aquarium (the pond).
6 position, lock status: this allows the filter no water by the cleaning of the pump.

Filter 2:

1x Velda Clear Control 50, Model 2012 without UV-C (each for ponds up to 20,000 liters)
1x Messner eco-Tec2 10000

The Model 2012, even a position 7, Winter: The filter is vented through the winter.

The filter can additionally with an electrical heating element (150 or 300 watts)
and a UV-C Unit of 9, 18 or 36 watts to be retrofitted. For me, only the filter 1 is equipped with a 9W UV-C.

All filter materials such as Japan mat, charcoal and lava (for settlement of filter bacteria) complete package included.

Filter 2 has currently have stock speakers of Velda, only comes in 1 filter mat and the Japan Lavabruch used, the coal was replaced against Floragard Floratorf.

Additionally blue filter sponges the size PP20 and PP10 were introduced in both print filters.

When UV-C unit comes with me in the filter 1 Velda UV-C Unit 9 watts for use. These UV-C unit can be installed in the Velda Cross-flow biofilter, the pressure filter Clear Control and the mini-pressure filter. The advantage is that all algae are killed and pathogens before the water is passed through the filter materials. Of course, the UV light is not with the filter materials in contact.

As pumps come with me the Messner eco-Tec2 pump to use. This can also be operated outside the water, both in when. The Messner eco-Tec2 7500 has a capacity of 7300L / h on water level (from surface), the eco-Tec2 10000 has an output of approx 11000l / h.

The pumps have a vortex impeller, which enables a large water yield and the transport of soil particles up to 8mm. The 7500 model has a power consumption of only "75W", the eco-Tec2 10000 requires unfortunately a little more, namely ca.110W, which is quite low for pumps of this capacity. The 7500 is pumping up to 4.00m above the actual water level, the 10000 creates tremendous 5,40m. The pumps also have a built-in thermal switch switches off the pump if it overheats, it automatically jumps back on when the pumps have cooled. The advantage of these pumps is the high capacity, combined with low power consumption and very quiet, they are also, as this is to asynchronous motors. By using these engines, it is also possible to use these pumps to "dim", ie the water flow could also be electronically limited. A special controller is it available from the company. Messner, but they can also be controlled for example via a dimmable socket of an aquarium computer.

The heating system:

The heat supply of the basin still occurs via a plate heat exchanger made of stainless steel, connected to the gas central heating of the house. The whole is currently governed by a Hydor Hydroset with digital display and a Oventrop electrothermal actuator (LD, 2-point, 230), which then regulates the heating valve. The workspace lies now between 5 and 35 degrees C. The temperature sensor of the hydraulic sets became invisible installed in the aquarium back wall. The heat exchanger is operated in bypass mode, 1 lest the full 7500l water running from the filter 1 through the exchanger, which would lead to very grosssen pressure losses, 2. then running not too hot water to the basin to what the fish could scald yourself.

The connection of a plate heat exchanger can be done both in direct current and in countercurrent. In my case, using the counterflow principle is carried out because the heat yield is here much better !!!

About this heat exchanger would also be very easy to implement in the summer cooling by cold water instead of hot water passing through the exchanger, or cooling the exchanger by fans.

This heating system operation: On the one hand, we connected the forward and the return for gas central heating, the heating thermostat is long and leaves a warm heating water until the desired / set temperature in the aquarium present. On the other side of the plate heat exchanger can be looped directly into an aquarium pump circuit and then works as a conventional water heater.

Data of the scheduled plate heat exchanger:

Hrale plate heat exchanger, 12 plates, type B3-12A-12

Manufacturer: Hrale
Plate number: 12 sheets
Cycle 1: F1, F3 1/2 inch external thread (heating connection)
Cycle 2: F2, F4 3/4 inch external thread (water supply)
Effective surface: approx 0.14 m²
Heat exchanger surface: 0,012m² per location
Capacity: up to 25 KW (water / water), heat transfer performance in the refrigerant and oil operating to 5 KW
Nominal pressure: 30 bar
Working temperature: - 190-225 degrees
Flow rate: 4 m³ / h
Material: Front and back in 1mm thickness, rosftreier stainless steel 304, Lot: Copper
Connection height: 15 mm
Weight: 800 g
Dimensions: 191x73x45 (mm) including connecting thread.

The plate heat exchanger consists of wave-shaped panels. Between the plates made of stainless steel are gaps. In them alternately flowing the heat-absorbing and heat-emitting medium. Both externally and among the media, the device is sealed, the individual plates are soldered.

Hydor Hydroset with digital display:

The Hydor Hydroset is a very precise electronic thermostat for aquariums and terrariums. He works with all standard heating cables, heating mats and other heating systems that come without its own control, it can be easily connected via a plug to the Hydroset.

It thereby controls max. 300W in the 110 / 115V version and max. 500W in the 230 / 240V version. The Hydor Hydroset with digital display has a control / adjustment range of 5 ° C - 35 ° C (41 ° F - 95 ° F), the only Without 18 ° C - 34 ° C (64.5 ° F - 93.2 ° F).

Oventrop electrothermal actuator, 2-point. 230 V, normally closed., M 30 x 1.5

Oventrops electrothermal actuators are used in the trades heating, ventilation and air conditioning. The actuators are normally used for room temperature control, such. As with conventional radiators, in combination with 2-point room thermostat. In my case it is driven at the time directly via the Hydor Hydroset. When the actuator is de-energized, eg the temperature has been reached in the aquarium, the actuator closes the heating valve on [...]
