Get inspired to create your own beautiful tank(s)
King Kong - Big Daddy - Der Vater meiner King Kongs und Pandas
Description of the aquarium:
Category:
Invertebrates
Tank size:
60x30x30 = 54 liters ~ 14 gallons (us)
Specific features:
- Species pool - breeder pool

The pool itself is a commercially available 54-basins of Tetra (no AquaArt!), In which I glued two pieces of glass to separate. The separation runs only above ground filter, so that the whole pool has an associated constructed wetland system. So I have on the ground a filter system with 8 liters volume on (rest / net) 46 liters of water.
I have also separated by the discs Beck parts with U-shaped tube systems connected to the network have also above the ground filter. The hose ends are naturally covered with very tighter gases (filter bags), so although the water flow, however, can slip through no shrimp offspring.

The pool may seem sparse or even planted inadequate for some eyes, however, the establishment of my breeders ambitions is the best way. The shrimp feel with my type of care very well. To see the extremely bright colors of the animals and also to see the Vermehrungsfreudigkeit.

Furthermore, I have omitted on purpose to disguise the rear wall!

The backgrounds for this form of Beck design you can read in my blog:

Shrimp death - why I prefer to set up the form "breeders basin" in shrimp.

Basin:
Tetra 54L (no AquaArt!)

The pool is in the basement on a Karlie aquarium cabinet.

The pool runs at this ground since 05.2011.

HIROSE Volcamia Green - Bodensubstrat (Soil)
Aquarium decoration:
Gravel:
8 kg (about 8 liters) - Hirose Volcamia Green - soil substrate (soil)
Grain: 2 - 4 mm
Color: beige-brown
This ground of various baked earth lowers the carbonate hardness (KH) and the pH value permanently. A pH of less than 7 must be set 2 and to avoid ammonia - for Red Bee breeding in pools should a carbonate hardness (KH) of 0. In Taiwan Bee`s the pH should be even deeper. If the measured total hardness (GH) of these values is less than 5 ° dH, I will raise with Shirakura Liquid Mineral Ca + this something because it can otherwise lead to molting problems.
HIROSE Volcamia Green - soil substrate (soil) does not contain any fertilizer additives. The very porous structure provides a very large surface area and thus habitat for the settlement of important micro-organisms. In connection with the built-leach the soil substrate, providing an optimum condition for Red Bee's.

Color Temperature: 6500Kelvin
Luminous flux: 900 lm (lumens)

Lighting time of 9:30 clock - 21:30 clock.
Saturday: Full light (rainy)
Filtration:
LifeTech soil filter (air operated) with a telescopic riser in each department (ie a total of 3).
In the riser is an integrated Sprudelstein so unlike conventional air lifters transport the smaller bubbles more water with upward. The riser is on individual base plates. These are variable plugged together and have a measure of 14 x 7 cm each. The weep holes are 2 mm wide.

In connection with the HIROSE Volcamia Green bottom substrate (soil), the entire ground becomes a biological filter with 8 liters filling volume !!!
From Japanese master breeders a filter volume of at least 5 liters is recommended at 60 liters tank contents. That would be projected for the 54-liter tank 4.5 liter filter volume. So I'm with the ground even at almost twice the volume filter as recommended.

In addition, soil filters are for keeping and breeding shrimps, as emerging pollutants are sucked out through excreta and uneaten food down and young shrimp can not be sucked in.

- Diaphragm air pump Tetratec APS400 for pools of 250-600 liters
Air flow: 400 l / h

Stocking:
Taiwan Bee's - Caridina cf. cantonensis
Including drawings, like:
King Kong
Panda
Wine Red

Origin:
The origin is here unclear, since it is "grown" versions of Caridina cf. cantonensis and not naturally occurring variant. The speculation of origin go here of spontaneous mutations of bee shrimp breeding over from Red Bee's, Black and White Bee's Bee's to New Varieties of bee shrimp and tiger shrimp. There are breeders, who maintain that the Bee's come from Taiwan. Others argue that they have their origin in Germany. The origin goes but in most of these speculations back to the sole action of the Caridina cf. cantonensis.

For crossbreeding:
The following listed animals is F1 + animals.
This means that these already resulting from multiple cross between Taiwanese and normal bee shrimp. Which in turn at a Keuzung these animals leads to F1 + and Taiwan-young.

Red Bee shrimp / Red Bee - Caridina cf. cantonensis
Red Bee - K4 classification (according to the Logemännern) / Grade A - 3-band
Red Bee - Classification K6 (according to Logemännern) / Grade S - V-belt

Black bee shrimp / Black Bee - Caridina cf. cantonensis
Black Bee - Classification K6 (according to Logemännern) / Grade S - V-belt
Black Bee - Classification K10 / Grade SS - No Entry Sign

Origin:
The original form of the bee shrimp color is the black and white type, native to China - from the mountainous regions near Hong Kong.
The red and white color form a breeding.
Size of the animals: to 3 cm
Recommended water values according to the literature:
Temp .: 20 - 27 ° C, preferably 24 - 25 ° C
GH: 3 ° - 16 ° dH, better than 5 ° dH
KH: up to 12 ° dH, better 0 ° - 2 ° dH
pH: 6.0 to 7.8, better than 7

NO3: about 5 mg / liter

Measured with JBL drop tests:
KH: 5 ° dH
GH: 8 ° dH

Measured with the specified measuring devices:

After almost five years shrimp attitude I think copper measurements in terms of shrimp in my tank superfluous.
For this I ask to read my next blog:

Shrimp and copper
Feeding:
Fed only once every 2-3days.

Frozen food or live food I'll feed not more shrimp because I as well as others known to me shrimp farmers think am that there are too many germs can be introduced with. If proteinaceous feed, then the above dry foods, since the production is carried out controlled!
Or even the use of decapsulated Artemia eggs has proven itself in me.

Water change:
2 * per week - Wednesdays and Saturdays:
about 20% -> about 9 liters (calculated on the water-net filling volume).
Ins exchange water before filling the addition of Easy-Life fluid filter medium.

Shirakura Liquid Mineral Ca +
is given as needed when the total hardness (GH) is too low (below 5 ° dH).
This addition results for the shrimp to vital minerals and raises the total hardness (GH) on. In very soft water, it can quickly lead to a lack of minerals in the shrimp. As a result, the animals may suffer from loss of color and skinning problems get. The nitrification microorganisms in the filter gravel can under 5 ° dH are inactive and it comes as a result in a deterioration of water quality at a total hardness (GH). For breeding bee shrimps a carbonate hardness (KH) of 0 - 2 is recommended and to avoid ammonia, a pH of less than 7. At these values, the overall hardness (GH) is normally too low. The hardness increase deaths are avoided in the shrimp and strengthened the tank.
The carbonate hardness (KH) is not changed by Shirakura Liquid Mineral.
Adding approximately after every fourth water change.
