Information:
Similar to C.
schwartzi but
this species does not posses the orange blotch in
the predorsal region and the first ray of the dorsal
is transparent or greyish black whereas C. parallelus
has the first ray of the dorsal black. This species
was first given the C-Number of C002. A very beautiful
species. Lineage: Placed inLineage 9, the "short-snouted"
species with the designated type species: C. punctatus.
A revision in the future would constitute the resurrection
of the genus name Hoplosopma (Agassiz, 1846).
Aquarium Care: This is akin to most
of this genus, very peaceful, and would be best housed
with small to medium tank mates such as Tetras, Rasboras
and Danios or in a species tank for breeding purposes.
Diet: A good quality flake food and
tablet food for adults with sporadic feedings of frozen
or live food will keep your Corydoras in
good health. Remarks:
The thumbnail images 5 & 6 are of specimens which
reportedly grow bigger than C. parallelus
and has two thicker stripes, which have in the past
been exported to Japan as "Super parallelus".
It is reported that this parallelus look-a-like
is sympatric with C. bifasciatus (info. from
K.C. Cheung). There is another parallelus
look-a-like species which has a longer snout which
may in time be given a new CW number (from Ian Fullers
website at www.corydorasworld.com).
